It happens more often than you might thing.

I’ll be at a client’s home, looking at their current closets or analyzing their storage space, and I’ll pull my trusty notepad and pencil out to start designing a custom closet on the spot. And suddenly, there it is…the funny looks that I’m doing such a daunting task on a piece of paper!

Several people have questioned me about using a pencil and paper to come up with my designs, instead of doing it all on some fancy computer program.

Don’t get me wrong, computer programs are great. Despite their benefits, I just prefer sticking to what has worked for me for more than 15 years. And here’s why:

1. Easy, On-The-Spot Designs

During your free in-home consultation, I’ll take several measurements and discuss your project with you. With this information, sketches can be made at the exact moment that inspiration hits me. No need to wait until I get back to my office and in front of a computer to put my ideas down!

As I continue to learn more about what exactly you’re looking for in your new closet space, I can make as many adjustments as I need to. The entire project unfolds right in front of you, facilitating a brainstorm between us as we work together to create your project.

2. Time To Talk

You’re right there with me as I build your closet from the ground up. The moment you think of something you want to add or remove, I can do it for you.

This is the perfect time to review several key points which will help me design the perfect closet for you:

  • What are the basics that you need?
  • What would be your dream closet?
  • What are you currently struggling with?
  • How can we fix all of this with a new design?

I always sketch out down and front views of your new closet space. You’ll be able to see my ideas from all angles. As I make updates, I always explain exactly what I’m doing, so that we’re both on the same page. No need to wait until I get back to the office to create an entire design on the computer, only to arrive and find that I’ve completely strayed from your vision due to an inability to properly communicate!

3. A More Personal Experience

We’ve worked with computers since the ’90s. I am more than familiar with all of the best programs used by other designers to create custom closet solutions. Doing the work with paper and a pencil just feels like a much more personal experience – for me as well as for our clients.

As mentioned above, you are practically able to watch your closet design come to life in front of your eyes as I sketch it in real time. How incredible is that? Only once we have a near-perfect design sketched out on paper will we re-create the visual digitally.

Storage organization systems are amazing value enhancers for your home. According to several surveys performed over the past 20 years, a custom built-in storage system is one of the best ways to add value to your home should you chose to sell in the future. We’ll work with you to come up with a flexible design that allows for growth with you as your needs change over time, and one that will benefit all future homeowners for years to come!
